Behavior Analysis and Therapy Procedures Related to Seclusion and Restraint

Abstract

|
In the psychiatric setting, the aggressive and destructive behaviors by patients are one of the most serious problems that therapists face frequently. There are many therapeutic approaches to deal with this behaviors, but numerous researches
results
support that behavioral anaysis and therapy are most effective.
When therapist have a plan to use the behavioral intervention for inappropriate behavior, he should specify the target behaviors, modify the antecedent and consequent stimuli, and have the evaluating system of treatment efficacy. In possible, it
is
better, to use the positive intervention than punishment, such as seclusion and restraint. But, sometimes, restrictive behavioral procedures including punishment are also very necessary and effective to reduce dangerous behavior rapidly. So
therapists
should practice the correct using method and try to be competent about it .
the author hope that more effective action research and program development of this area will progress in the Korean psychiatry in the future.
